About me

Rui Filipe Lopes, Born in Tondela, Viseu – Portugal. After completing his high school in Art at the Escola

Artística António Arroio, Rui pursuits his studies at Ar.Co –Centre for Art and Visual Communication, Lisbon.

After completing this non-academic course, Rui decides to follow his academic studies graduating Painting at

Faculty of Fine Art,, University of Lisbon. Master's Degree in Art-Multimedia-Performance & Art Installation at

the same institution. Rui is currently completing a PhD in Contemporary Art History at FCSH New University of

Lisbon. Painting was, and still remains, his first love which led him to participate in several shows and

exhibitions national and internationally. During the nineties, Rui has taken several different approaches to his

practice, working as a Graphic Designer for several magazines, fanzines, advertising companies, producing a

more commercial body of work. As a consequence of his career, Rui had participated in several theatre

productions as Stage Designer which opened him the opportunity to work as a Theatre Producer ever since.

He's been involved in several plays at renowned theatres in Lisbon such as Teatro da Trindade, Teatro da

Encarnação, Teatro Aberto, Teatro Nacional de S Carlos and in Oporto for Teatro Nacional de S. João. Having an

interest in still and moving image, Rui has also worked as Producer and Consultant for Fashion, where he

created several accessories and sets for runways and photo shows. He is a founding member of the collective

group play'n beauty, with whom created several Art projects.
